Volunteer Opportunity- flag pick-up the weekend after Memorial Day

May 31, 2017 By Team Up 4 Community

Every year volunteers gather the Saturday morning of Memorial Day Weekend at Calverton National Cemetery to place U.S. Gravesite Flags at each grave to recognize and honor our military service men and women. This event takes place at military cemeteries across the country.

The following Saturday, the flags are removed and put away for the next year. There is always more of a need for volunteers at flag pick-up the weekend after Memorial Day than flag placement.

The Little Patriots will be picking up flags at Calverton National Cemetery on Saturday, June 3rd at 9:30am. The instructions are simple, show up, pick up. Please dress appropriately for the weather. The start time is 9:30 am. You do whatever you are able to do. We are there about 2 hours to pick up the flags, bundle them in groups of twenty and put them in the appropriate spot for pickup. I will have rubber bands and a wagon to bring them to the storage boxes.

Where: Calverton National Cemetery 210 Princeton Blvd. Riverhead, NY
Section: 32
When: Saturday, June 3rd at 9:30am
